Bye Bye Year 2004
Best Of Media
Rising Media IPO’s-
This year could mark a new beginning for print media stock. After the subdued entry into the stock markets few years ago of Gujrat Samachar’s Sandesh[‘99] and Mid Day[‘01], two others, Deccan Chronicle Holdings and CyberMedia - leaders in their own niches/regions have successfully gone public. Early this year NDTV and TV Today successfully forayed their IPO’s. These Media moves are seen to be setting a new standard for others to go the IPO way.
New Kids On The Block-
The 100 crore Kids entertainment market pie is being sliced in a different way, driven by growing number of 24 hour kids channel. A slew of channels have been launched in the past couple of years including "Pogo", "Nickoleodean" and the latest being "Hungama". There are more in pipeline.
FM Radio’s Popularity Rises-
FM radio listenership in Mumbai has grown over 4 times in the last three years. In Delhi, it has doubled during this period. The survey by ORG-MARG reveals that FM radio listenership in Mumbai and Delhi reached 34 % each from 8% and 19%.The irony lies in the fact that though the data highlights the potential of the industry, FM radio broadcasters, crippled by a license fee regime are on the verge of shutting shop.
